Instructions for Showcasers
Three easy steps:
A. First, establish your “showcaser” account
B. Second, add your clips
C. Third, you can organise your clips into folders, select favourites, delete clips, etc.
A. Becoming a Showcaser
1. From the http://showcase.culture.info page, select “Register” in the left hand column
2. Complete the simple registration form (name, username, email, password, plus some options to categorise what type of showcaser you are)
3. Click “send registration” – and that’s it.
4. An email will be sent to you and you can log in straight away
B. Adding Clips
Note: your clips must already be loaded to YouTube or another video provider (see below for a list and links)
To begin, logon, using your username and password, and then select “Add Video” from the left hand column.
There are then three main steps / pages:
1. FIRST STEP / PAGE
1.1. Select one of the categories available
1.2. If you wish, select from any or all of the other categories
1.3. Once you have made your selections, click on the “tick” icon at the bottom
2. SECOND STEP / PAGE
2.1. You can now add details of your clip: first insert a title
2.2. Then insert the URL for your clip which you will have from when it was loaded to YouTube or a similar service (best to “cut and paste” this) – see below for a list of all services accepted by showcase.culture.info
2.3. Then select a “folder” from the drop down list – each showcase has a default “folder” but you can add additional folders if you want to keep groups of clips together (via the “add folders” option in the left hand column)
2.4. Then add a description if you wish – you can also use the Word style editing features by selecting the relevant icons above the description box (e.g. bold, italics, etc.). You can also add images using the icon below this box. Please note that the showcase keyword search function does NOT include this field in its searches – keywords for search purposes can be added on the next page
2.5. Then click on the “save/disk” icon at the bottom
3. THIRD STEP / PAGE
3.1. You can then add details in the three boxes at the bottom
3.2. the publishing details allow you to make the video clip available to the public (i.e. everyone) or just to other registered showcasers (by selecting the “registered” option) – you can also enter dates so your clip will only be available during a specific time period.
3.3. the metadata section is very important – adding keywords here will enable the showcase keyword search function and external search engines to find your clip. Adding details of your location here may be extremely helpful to users (country, region, city, etc.)
3.4. there is also the option of adding images but this is probably not relevant to most showcasers
3.5. Once you have finished, then click on the “save/disk” icon at the top
4. FINISHED
You should then get a message saying your video has been uploaded
C. Organising Your Clips
Once you are registered as a showcaser and have added some clips, you will see that there are other options in the left hand column:·
Add Folder – this enable you to add another folder into which you can place some of your clips – just enter a name for the new folder, select whether you want this available to the public (select “public”) or if you just want it available to other showcasers (“registered”), and then add a description if you wish·
Manage Folders – this enables you to publish, unpublish or delete folders·
Manage Videos – this enables you to edit, unpublish or delete video clips·
Favourites – this enables you to compile your own selection of your favourite clips·
My Videos Page – this takes you to the page listing all your videos·
My Profile – this takes you to your profile page, where you can edit your details
List of Video Providers available to Showcase
URLs of video clip from any of these services are able to be added to the Showcase database:
